How to downgrade PSP 2.80 to 1.5

The steps in downgrading PSP 2.50 are easy to understand and to follow. All you have to remember is to strictly follow the procedures to have a successful downgrade.

There are certain requirements that you need to consider before starting. One is to check for the motherboard. If the unit has a TA-082 motherboard, then do not downgrade. This model does not accept downgrade. For those who have no problem with these requirements and are still eager to proceed then do the following steps:

You will need to install programs such as eLoader and xLoader. This is an auto-installation, meaning you will just insert the USB connector from your PSP to the computer and it will be automatically downloaded to your PSP. PatchSFO Tool, on the other hand, needs to be manually transferred to the GAME folder. These programs are needed to acquire another program, the Easy Downgrader.

Download Easy Downgrader from www.homebrewpsp.iphpbb.com to your desktop and extract the files. Open the Easy Downgrader folder and click the ‘2.80-1.50’. Send it to your PSP by clicking browse and search for the location of your PSP; click ok then install.

Disconnect the USB cable that connects the PSP to the computer. Make sure that the needed programs are already installed in the Photo section of your gadget. Hold start on eLoader and open PatchSFO Tool to patch the memory stick and the downgrader. After you have completely patched the program, restart the PSP.

Activate the xLoader to be able to use the downgrader from the PSP’s menu. Remember that the eLoader and xLoader are two different programs. Do not interchange them. Using eloader in this step can cause the bricking of your unit.

Restart your PSP by holding the power button for 5 to 10 seconds or until the unit turns off. Switch on again and this time, go to ‘Photo’ and look for the xLoader file and highlight it. Press the start button for a few seconds and wait until the screen turns white. If this happens, then you are doing the steps correctly but if the memory stick continues to blink and the screen does not show any error, try to reboot the gadget and retry.

The error means that the xLoader is already active. The next step is to go to “Game’ folder and look for the easy downgrader again and press X to remove it. Confirmation will come out and press O to start the unit.

Message stating ‘Downdate starting’ will appear on the screen and the memory stick will blink for a few minutes. After that a message stating that the procedure is already finished and that the unit should be restarted again will appear. Press the power button for the unit to restart and you will see an error window. Just press O and enter the settings.
You can now use the new firmware 1.50. Remember, the key to having a successful download is to make sure to follow the proper procedure. Skipping the procedure or wrong pushing of buttons might cause bricking in your PSP. You should also make sure that you fully charged your batteries or it has at least 70% life because it is also another factor that causes bricking of the system.
